Roadside Ash Dieback
A commercial client asked us to clear some roadside ash and larch, having had a report that the trees were identified as being diseased and being informed by the local council that they should be removed away from the carriageway in a timely manor.
We implemented full traffic management along the 250metres of road side for this two week project.
The trees were felled and processed road side one at a time using a mixture of Mechanical arb and felling by hand. The brash was chipped back onto site or wind rowed to create cover for wildlife. The timber was processed to be sold for sawlogs or to be milled.
The site was left very clean and tidy and removes the liability from them should a tree fall onto the carriageway in high winds.
Vegetation Clearance
We were approached to carry out some scrub and vegetation clearance on a CADW listed Iron Age Hill Fort on Pendinas near Aberystwyth, to support a future archeological dig at the location.
The sensitive nature of the site, and challenging access up a steep path, complicated the task and meant that timing the work with a period of dry weather was key to avoid digging into the surface.
Our low ground pressure robotic flail is capable of handling gradients up to 45 degrees and vegetation up to 50mm thick, allowing us to cut bracken, brambles and samplings back to ground level efficiently , without us risking damage to the soil – despite a number of changes in terrain and gradient.
Building Bridges in Ceredigion
As part of an ongoing contract with a local council, we were asked to replace a timber bridge on the Welsh Coastal Path near Mwnt that had rotted away.
Despite difficult access, we lifted out the bridge whole and then cut it into pieces for removal, replacing it with a design built with galvanised steel and composite decking boards.
Limited space meant the bridge had to be built in situ, so the 8.5m steels were lifted and bolted in place first, before attaching the treads and hand rails.
The site was then left tidy ready for visitors to again enjoy the coastal path.
